Some of the main ideas that we learned this week were literature and writing. We learned that writing was always a work of progress and that literature is different from commercial fiction. Both of these main ideas go together because to be a good writer you have to have a solid background of literature. Literature provides a better understanding for more complex ideas and forces the mind to look for details beyond what is just written on paper. We watched a video of Harvard freshmen that had them talking about how their writing wasn't up to par with the standards of their teachers. While we were watching this, we were blogging things that really stuck out to us and it helped us remember the details of the video. We also talked about us as a reader and writer and answered questions about what they were to us. After we blogged our responses, we shared other people's responses that stuck out to us and that we agreed/disagreed with. I think my participation was pretty good but I didn't quite understand the "rapid blogging" idea at first but now I do. I would rate myself that I understood fully everything that we learned this week and I don't believe there is anything that I need additional instruction on as of yet.
